Moxibustion

Moxibustion

Moxibustion is related to acupuncture. It is often used in combination with acupuncture needles in the West. It can, however, be used separately.

The principle behind moxibustion involves the use of a heated herb called moxa. The heat generated from this herb can be used to warm acupuncture needles or the heat source can be placed near to acupuncture point.

In China moxibustion has been shown to have particular benefits for patients with inflammatory bowel disease and with irritable bowel syndrome.
